IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IBS is usually characterised by pain or distension in the abdomen, bloating, nausea, heartburn, belching, with alternating between constipation and diarrhoea (usually more more constipation or diarrhoea). For more information on both go to constipation or diarrhoea.
In Chinese medicine this is referred to as liver Qi invading the spleen. If the spleen and stomach are weak then the smooth flowing of Qi (the function of the of liver) over controls. This means the function of the spleen and stomach, the digestion (ripening and rotting) and transforming into energy into the body (upward movement) is impaired. Stress and anger can make it worse.
